Oh, America how I miss thee. I miss your Christmas decorations that come way too early, your change of seasons, and your mountains of canned pumpkin puree. That last part is really pulling on my heart strings. I live in Dubai, and canned pumpkin does not come easily. At home I usually can grab some year round and go pumpkin crazy. In Dubai, not so much.
Halloween is only a few days away! If you’re scrambling like me about what to make at your upcoming parties, here are some of my favorite creepy desserts crawling around on the web. Easy boxed cake mix turned into soft pumpkin cake baked with a perfect crunchy pecan and chocolate chip streusal. This Chocolate Chip Pecan Pumpkin Coffee Cake is so easy you’ll never buy coffee cake again.
One of my best friends Jennifer came to visit me from Florida last week. We did all the Dubai things I was too afraid to do on my own. Like brave the chaotic streets of the Old Dubai Souks in Deira. She is pretty much like me when it comes to shopping. Our motto to every store employee or shop owner is “Don’t talk to me”. I’m not sure if that’s an American thing or a I don’t have any idea how to haggle thing. Our first mistake we made was arrive hours before the shopping rush. No one was there but the little shop salesmen. Is that what they’re called? Imagine Agrabah from Disney’s Alladin on steroids and the only customers are two scared white girls who don’t want to be talked to. Every salesman was on us like flies on a date.

Sweet potato pie meets cupcake! Moist sweet potato cupcakes topped with luscious maple walnut frosting and a fluffy toasted marshmallow. Choosing between your favorite pumpkin cupcakes and these Sweet Potato Cupcakes and Maple Walnut Frosting will be the hardest decision you make this holiday!
It’s amazing how life can change so drastically in such a short amount of time. In April we were doing our Florida family thing…kiddie pools in the backyard, Disney on the weekends, and flip flops everyday. I never ever would have thought our family would be moving to the Middle East. Especially within a few weeks of my husband getting a job offer. We sold everything in two weeks, put the house up for rent, and started our new chapter. With all the excitement also came all the fears. Are the kids going to do well in a foreign school? Will I get bit by a deadly snake? Will the sandstorms be just like Mission Impossible? You know, perfectly reasonable questions for moving a family to the desert.
I think I’ve kind of turned into a S’mores snob. I’m not sure if that’s something to brag about, but I’m totally going to own it. Here it goes. I’m going to say it…Biscoff cookies are soooooo much better than graham crackers. Especially when making s’mores. Uh oh, there goes my Nabisco endorsement.
Frightening molasses cookie Graboids with yummy fondant tentacles jumping out of Biscoff cookie sand. Easily turn simple vanilla cupcakes into Tremors Cupcakes and relive your favorite 90’s campy monster movie this Halloween!
This is Yummy Crumble’s second Halloween under it’s belt and it’s definitely my favorite time of the year to bake. At what other time is it okay to make edible intestines and chewy eyeballs? Last year the rage was all about Monster Strawberry Cupcakes and Star Wars Sarlacc Bundt Cakes. This year, I’m breaking out my favorite monster movie, Tremors for inspiration. In my opinion, it’s some of the best work done by Kevin Bacon. Just watch this —-> Can you fly, you sucker? Who doesn’t love Kevin Bacon? This ones for you Kevin.

You know that perfect crispy edge to a brownie? And what about the chewy dense center after that first bite? Think of all your favorite parts of a brownie magically squeezed into a gluten free, butter free cookie. Yes, no gluten or butter! Oh, and one more thing. Only one bowl! These are so decadent and so delicious, you wouldn’t even guess that the flour and butter are missing.
A yummy and moist Apple and Sweet Potato Clafoutis with all the flavors of your favorite holiday pies. Full of beautiful spiced apples and sweet potato, its the perfect addition to your morning coffee.
I’m freaking out right now guys. Its only a couple days until October and I have not been able to get my hands on any canned pumpkin. In the land of Dubai where the rose water is flowing and all the spices known to mankind reside, pumpkin puree is very difficult to come by. Don’t they realize that white girls NEED pumpkin?! They have freaking durian fruit. The fruit that smells like hot week old garbage. But no pumpkin yet. So I’ve been using sweet potato in place of pumpkin until I can find some.
There are many benefits to living in Dubai. First, all the crazy things you see on a weekly basis. That buzzfeed list, is not in any way an exaggeration. The food. Oh my goodness the food! Also the movie theaters are amazing here. They even have a luxury VIP section that is out of this world. Movies will never be the same for me when I go back home. Speaking of movies…The movie set of Star Wars the Force Awakens is basically an hour and half drive away. How cool is that? I know what our family is going to be doing next weekend. Driving the dunes of Abu Dhabi searching for droids, Jawas, and the Millennium Falcon.
It is definitely not a secret how geeky our family is and baking geeky desserts is one of my favorite things to make for the blog. One of my most popular posts was my Star Wars Sarlacc Bundt Cake. So since Halloween is just around the corner, I put together these Star Wars Sarlacc Cupcakes. They were incredibly easy to decorate and perfectly adorable for your next Halloween or Star Wars themed party.
