Easy boxed cake mix turned into soft pumpkin cake baked with a perfect crunchy pecan and chocolate chip streusal. This Chocolate Chip Pecan Pumpkin Coffee Cake is so easy you’ll never buy coffee cake again.
One of my best friends Jennifer came to visit me from Florida last week. We did all the Dubai things I was too afraid to do on my own. Like brave the chaotic streets of the Old Dubai Souks in Deira. She is pretty much like me when it comes to shopping. Our motto to every store employee or shop owner is “Don’t talk to me”. I’m not sure if that’s an American thing or a I don’t have any idea how to haggle thing. Our first mistake we made was arrive hours before the shopping rush. No one was there but the little shop salesmen. Is that what they’re called? Imagine Agrabah from Disney’s Alladin on steroids and the only customers are two scared white girls who don’t want to be talked to. Every salesman was on us like flies on a date.
Frightening molasses cookie Graboids with yummy fondant tentacles jumping out of Biscoff cookie sand. Easily turn simple vanilla cupcakes into Tremors Cupcakes and relive your favorite 90’s campy monster movie this Halloween!
This is Yummy Crumble’s second Halloween under it’s belt and it’s definitely my favorite time of the year to bake. At what other time is it okay to make edible intestines and chewy eyeballs? Last year the rage was all about Monster Strawberry Cupcakes and Star Wars Sarlacc Bundt Cakes. This year, I’m breaking out my favorite monster movie, Tremors for inspiration. In my opinion, it’s some of the best work done by Kevin Bacon. Just watch this —-> Can you fly, you sucker? Who doesn’t love Kevin Bacon? This ones for you Kevin.
A yummy and moist Apple and Sweet Potato Clafoutis with all the flavors of your favorite holiday pies. Full of beautiful spiced apples and sweet potato, its the perfect addition to your morning coffee.
I’m freaking out right now guys. Its only a couple days until October and I have not been able to get my hands on any canned pumpkin. In the land of Dubai where the rose water is flowing and all the spices known to mankind reside, pumpkin puree is very difficult to come by. Don’t they realize that white girls NEED pumpkin?! They have freaking durian fruit. The fruit that smells like hot week old garbage. But no pumpkin yet. So I’ve been using sweet potato in place of pumpkin until I can find some.
Super scary and cute miniature Sarlaccs jumping out of vanilla cupcakes. These Star Wars Sarlacc Cupcakes are perfect for your next creepy Halloween party!
There are many benefits to living in Dubai. First, all the crazy things you see on a weekly basis. That buzzfeed list, is not in any way an exaggeration. The food. Oh my goodness the food! Also the movie theaters are amazing here. They even have a luxury VIP section that is out of this world. Movies will never be the same for me when I go back home. Speaking of movies…The movie set of Star Wars the Force Awakens is basically an hour and half drive away. How cool is that? I know what our family is going to be doing next weekend. Driving the dunes of Abu Dhabi searching for droids, Jawas, and the Millennium Falcon.
It is definitely not a secret how geeky our family is and baking geeky desserts is one of my favorite things to make for the blog. One of my most popular posts was my Star Wars Sarlacc Bundt Cake. So since Halloween is just around the corner, I put together these Star Wars Sarlacc Cupcakes. They were incredibly easy to decorate and perfectly adorable for your next Halloween or Star Wars themed party.
A gooey Upside Down Caramel Apple Spice Cake to start the Fall season right. It’s your favorite retro cake with a spicy Autumn apple makeover!
You guys, I’m a little sad. I think it has finally hit me that Dubai will never “feel” like Christmas. If you don’t know, I live and breathe Christmas. Many of my friends and especially my husband know my secret. I break out Ella Fitzgerald’s Swinging Christmas and Dino’s Christmas as soon as July hits. I told you I’m crazy! Well guys, I can say Dubai has finally broken me. It’s September and the sugar plumbs haven’t even crossed my mind. It’s hard to feel cozy about the holidays when the temperatures are steadily hanging in the low 100s. And the sand. It’s everywhere. It’s like living in Tatooine! I think Norman (my kid’s Elf on the Shelf) is probably thinking “Where on Earth have you taken me?!” We are about to have a serious pow wow soon. I need his advice on this one. He is an elf after all.
Amazing thick and chewy peanut butter bars with an apple cinnamon streusal and salted caramel drizzle. If you adore apples smothered in peanut butter, these Apple Peanut Butter Bars with Salted Caramel will be your new best friend.
How can I make a healthy snack of apples and peanut butter into a completely decadent and insanely delicious not so healthy dessert? That may or may not have been my thinking while developing these bars. It’s okay though. I eat these in my gym clothes so that I can run straight to the gym and work off the calories after pigging out. It’s my system and I stand by it. By the way, these Apple Peanut Butter Bars with Salted Caramel are totally worth running those extra miles on the treadmill.
Sweet honey cornbread cupcakes turned into the best shortcakes you will ever have. Triple sugared berries piled high with fluffy clouds of home made whipped cream. Summer was always meant to be this sweet
Now for my new summer favorite. These Sweet Cornbread Triple Berry Shortcakes are the perfect excuse to raid your fridge for berries. The shortcakes are dripping with tons of juicy tart berries but don’t forget the star of this dessert. It’s the moist sweet honey cornbread that will have you coming back for more. I played with the idea of cornbread as strictly a dessert when I made Blueberry Cornbread Cupcakes. They were devoured by everyone within a three foot radius.
Soft banana cake littered with dark chocolate chunks and walnuts while swimming in salted caramel. What’s not to love? Turn those brown bananas into a lovely Chocolate Chunk Banana Caramel Poke Cake!
Everyone knows not to grocery shop when you’re hungry. We all do it anyway and end up with a cart load of food we probably will never get around to eating. You also shouldn’t grocery shop with a two year old, regardless if she’s hungry or not. Every time I’m in the produce section, she’s super excited to see those bright yellow bananas. “Bananas!”, she always squeals when she rides by them. Will she eat those bananas? Nope. Does she scream if you don’t put them in the cart? Yes. It’s okay though, that means plenty of opportunities for baking this Chocolate Chunk Banana Caramel Poke Cake. You would be squealing about bananas too.
Three glorious layers come together for the ultimate cannoli experience. These super easy Chocolate Cannoli Bars are still decadent and plus they look super fancy. This is where you can go crazy with the pistachios. Pistachios = Fancy.
So I think I finally got the kiddos on a schedule. Oliver goes to summer camp every morning from 8 to about 1:30. Super amen to that! Then it’s just Jovi and me for what we call “mommy camp”, which is just Jovi watching people play with Play Doh on Youtube. Is that a thing? There are like hundreds of videos of people making cupcakes with Play Doh, and her little two year old brain is hooked. Then around 11 am I smell something funky, change that diaper and she’s down for a nap. Probably dreaming about Play Doh, I’m sure. So for about an hour and a half it really turns into mommy camp. I catch up on the blog, bake, and just soak in the sounds of nothing. I love it.
